Dell Inspiron 5100 (Domain Controller)

  • 1.8Ghz Pentium 4 CPU
  • 512MB RAM
  • 40GB HD
  • 100Mbps NIC
  • CD-RW/DVD-ROM

This old laptop serves as my Active Directory Domain Controller, it runs Zentyal Linux (Ubuntu).

Almost all of my modern PCs authenticate to it as their primary domain controller. It also serves DHCP/DNS/PXE/TFTP for my Network OS Deployment server, and some minimal network storage (most of the network storage is handled by my FreeNAS).

As I have moved away from Windows on my PCs at home, this has fallen out of use, there are no Windows PC still authenticating to it, it’s only handling my DHCP, and it will be retired soon.  I will move DHCP for the main LAN onto my PFSense machine, which already handles DHCP for my CCTV and IoT networks.
